The Maker Educator Convening is an annual gathering of maker education practitioners from all over the world, organized by Maker Ed. This year, the event will take place in Pittsburgh, PA, in collaboration with MuseumLab at Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. We are committed to further exploring last year’s themes—equity, accessibility, and sustainability in maker education—over two full days of sharing, collaboration, and delicious food. We hope you will join us! To register and for more information, visit Maker Ed’s website.

PhD Student
Cambridge, MA
Jaleesa is a graduate student in the lifelong kindergarten research group at the MIT Media Lab where she researches learning technologies and experiences. Her research focus is on examining the race, class, and social barriers to constructionism in education through an intersectional lens with the hope to provide solutions to eradicate them. Her goal is to give non-dominant youth access to STEM technologies and equip educators with the resources to provide an equitable learning environment.

Prior to graduate school Jaleesa was the Coordinator at the Computer Clubhouse and a high school computer science teacher, in Tacoma, WA. She is also a community organizer with a group called Tacoma Action Collective, where she brings awareness to many issues such as health disparities, violence, housing inequalities, the achievement gap in education, access and representation in STEM, and other issues that impact marginalized people. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Washington in human centered design and engineering.
