Do you see the promise of making in education and wonder how it can work practically in a K-12 setting? Maker Mentors from Wake County Public School System in North Carolina will share how they are scaling maker education in a large suburban public school district in ways that are deeply rooted in curriculum standards.

Our panel discussion is aimed at audiences who are interested in developing a maker mindset in their school or district but find themselves without a clear blueprint for how to begin and/or gain momentum. This panel discussion will detail startup ideas and strategies for satisfying concerns related to staff buy-in, budget, materials, curriculum alignment and space. We come with tried-and-true practices such as utilizing a try-before-you-buy lending library, a professional reading library, maker mentors for continuous school support, online access to startup tools and lessons via our maker website, and the use of grants for funding. We will share our district maker website which includes inspiration and practical tools for building a maker culture for participants to refer to after the conference. During the session, participants will be given time and tools to think through their own situations and next steps.
